2009
marks the fifth year of the Miskolc Chamber Music
Summer concert series. This Summer, following
the tradition of previous years, we are proud to provide a platform
for chamber musicians and to offer a chance for chamber music
enthusiasts to enjoy classical music in a beautiful setting.
2009 also marks the anniversary of the birth
and death of three prominent composers. This year's program centres
around the works of Joseph Haydn (1732-1809),
George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and Felix
Mendelssohn (1809-1947), celebrating their infinite talent
as composers of classical music (and chamber music in particular).
It has become somewhat of a tradition for the Chamber
Music Summer to provide young musicians with the opportunity
of performing for an enthusiastic audience. Along with the more
widely known musicians such as the Musicus Civitatis Ensemble,
the Ritornello Trio and the pianist Zsófia Némethi, we
are proud to present the EMIK String Quartet.
This year's guest of honour is Randall Scotting (contratenor).
Concerts take place in the Európa Ház and the
Deszka Church.
It has become clear in the past five years that the community
of Miskolc is eager to organize and enjoy classical
musical concerts as they believe that classical music should be
part of the city's cultural landscape throughout the year and
by no means should be restricted to occasional large scale events.
With the generous contribution and support of the City of Miskolc
and of local businesses these concerts became a central feature
of the city's cultural life. Their popularity is evident in the
ever growing numbers of audiences.
We hope that all music lovers will enjoy our programs and will
return to celebrate the wonders of chamber music in coming years.
